Organized by the University of Arts in Philadelphia, this is the first exhibition of female Pop artists.

 Parallel Starts: Outsider Art Inside Collections

Thru October 17, 2010

Parallel Starts: Outsider Art Inside Collections looks at the challenge of defining outsider art and how the inclusion of outsider art in museum collections blurs the boundaries between the two worlds. The exhibition is drawn mainly from the Sheldon Museum of Art’s permanent collection and a selection of works by Jeffrey Randall, a Lincoln, Nebraska artist.

 

LUX Center for the Arts

 LUX Center for the Arts presents “Unsettled” by acclaimed textiles artist, Xia Gao, September 3 – October 30.  The opening reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 3rd.  Gao uses fabric, screen-printing, and light to tell her story of relocation and adaptation to Nebraska from her native country, China.  This exhibition is in collaboration with the Textile Society of America conference.

LUX Center for the Arts also presents “A Mortal’s Dream” by LUX Artist-in-Residence Natasha Overholtzer, September 3 - 25. The opening reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 3. Overholtzer draws inspiration for her work from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”  She creates playful interpretations by installing small groups of her elegant jewelry in shadowboxes that represent each of the fairies in the play: “Peaseblossom,” “Cobweb,” and “Mustardseed.” Overholtzer will be on hand at the opening to answer questions. 

 

Salt Creek Potters Workshop

9 Muses Studio

Location: 2713 North 48th Street,

 9 Muses Studio presents the work of photographer, Jack Hubbell; found object artist, Lori Hubbell; and bronze sculptor, Pete Wroblewski and Lori Hubbell will perform an “Asian Fan Dance” throughout the evening. This type of dance evokes the magnificence of Japanese costuming and the mysterious and alluring movement of the fan as a prop.

 

Grand Manse

Grand Manse Gallery will feature the work of Lincoln artist Ann Williams, September 3-28.  The show is titled "Artifex Ratio". A collection of two dimensional artwork created by Ann Williams which mimics the appearance of stained glass through its myriad of colored segments and intuitive, bold black lines. Sound and movement are revealed in the strokes that flow throughout each piece creating unique abstractions of a variety of subject matter. Just as sections of stained glass windows are hidden with inadequate light, images within this body of work are not initially seen unless the viewer takes sufficient time to look and study them. Experience the end result of Ann’s spontaneous yet multifaceted method through this solo exhibition.

 


The Lichen

Location: 2810 N 48th Street

The lichen continues the showing of “Packets & Attachments”, a series of photographs made by an artist working anonymously under the pseudonym Z. Xonk. All communications between Xonk and the lichen were made digitally, leaving Xonk completely unknown. This body of work explores digital, social interactions involving anonymity, sexuality and gender.

At 9:00 p.m., the lichen will be holding an encore screening of “Within the Realm of the People: love, dreams, & the reanimation of a severed dog's head.”  This film is a compilation of beautiful, bizarre, and bygone public domain footage.  A live soundtrack will be performed by The Ghost Kids.

Against the Wall Gallery presents “A Day at the Lake: A New Book of Photography by Wayne Hathaway.”  This exhibition of wildlife and landscape photography by Sterling, Nebraska photographer Wayne Hathaway documents the unique natural environment at Lincoln’s Holmes Lake. Hathaway’s new book and framed photographs will be available for purchase.

Gallery 9 will feature the work of three of its most unique and original artists.  Mixed Media artist and sculptor Carol DeVall, Jeweler and Mixed Media artist Gail Folda, and Sculptor Roy Stoner! Drawing their inspiration from places in the mind that most of us never wander into, this trio of talented and daring artists brings their creations together for their first joint exhibit. Equally unique and daring will be the evening's musical entertainment: "Das Hoboerotica." The show will run from September 1 through September 26.

Wilson's spells are the far edge of form.

Crisp's destruction is the far end of language.
