Call for Artist | 2012 Mayor's Arts Awards
Posted by: Lincoln Arts Council
For 34 years the Lincoln Arts Council has produced the Mayor's Arts Awards for the Mayor and city of Lincoln. This year, winners in fourteen categories will be honored at a banquet on June 6, 2012 on the Lied Center main stage, and each will receive an actual work of art as part of their recognition.
We would like you to consider making the fourteen works of art.
It would be difficult to find a more prestigious local showcase for your work than this annual celebration of Lincoln's best artists, arts organizations, art consumers and art related funders. Plus, the work of art awards will be proudly displayed in the homes of the winners. You would also join the exclusive group of artists who have done awards in the past, artists such as Rob Hillestad, Carol DeVall, Keith Jacobshagen, and Ted Kooser.
There is a modest stipend for the works, and the calendar looks like this:
- February 15, submission deadline
- February 20, artist selected and notified
- March 15, initial design concept
- April 15, one piece completed
- May 21, all pieces completed
The fourteen works do not have to be identical, but should share a family resemblance in size, style and genre. Each work should be an original, or if a print, an edition limited to these fourteen.
We placed a similar call for artist last year for 2011, and for those of you who submitted a proposal, we still have your submission and it will be considered again. But this year, for 2012, we have made earlier decisions on the event theme and would like submissions, or re-submissions to be informed by the theme ideas. Please consider: "Mapping the Arts," "Putting Arts on the Map," "Lincoln: An Arts Destination," or the current favorite- "Destination: Arts" as you consider your proposal.
If your current work seems suitable for these awards and you would like to be considered for this years Mayor's Arts Award Artist, please submit before the deadline of February 15th, an email or written proposal. Proposals should describe the artworks and include some background on yourself. Photos of similar works are welcome, but not necessary. Please send your proposal to: doug@artscene.org or
