Modified Flight Plan authors Brian Thomas and Lisa Kovanda will speak at an event hosted by Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital on Friday, June 21. Modified Flight Plan, tells the story of Brian, a pilot and mechanic, whose dreams are put in danger because of a rare bleeding disorder. After enduring a spleen removal and chemotherapy in attempts to cure the disease, he is left with a weak immune system. In April of 2009, Brian left his job at Duncan Aviation, where he was an aviation mechanic, to go home with what he thought was the flu. Four hours later, he is comatose and on life-support. His hands, feet, and face develop gangrene, and ten days later when he wakes up, he must face the prospect of becoming a quadruple amputee. Surgeons are able to save his left hand, but he faces a long road to recovery, and regaining his life. Facing his situation with great courage, he overcomes these enormous setbacks and is able to regain his life through rehabilitation at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital.
Today, Brian is not only flying again, he also uses his experience to help others. In addition to being a writer, he is a Certified Peer Visitor with Amputee Empowerment Partners and a member of Pilots of America. And, he has returned to work at Duncan Aviation in Lincoln. Brian's co-author Lisa Kovanda is an award-winning writer and current President of the Nebraska Writers Guild. She is also a charter member of the Nebraska Film Association. She has penned Reckless Abandon, The Hunt, and Cedar in Seattle.

In 2009 the Lincoln Arts Council received a generous gift from the estate of Ken Good, a portion of which was used to redevelop our website and establish an endowment. We offer our heart-felt thanks to Kenneth J. Good for his generosity and vision for a beautiful future.
