Summer Educational Opportunities

Summer educational artistic opportunities for kidsSummer belongs to children... the season for kids to just be kids and for adults to find their inner child. It is the perfect time for kids to explore, learn, and create so we decided to put together a list of opportunities for students to spend their summers immersed in art.

Whether you are a musician, actor, dancer, or visual artist, there are opportunities to work with amazing professionals in your discipline right here in Lincoln.

Theatre:

  • The Lincoln Community Playhouse has a variety of classes, day camps, and academies for theatre students of all ages.
  • The Haymarket Theatre offers two sessions of children's summer theatre performance classes. Students rehearse and perform a production along with the opportunity to take classes in all aspects of the theatre.

Dance:

  • The Lincoln Midwest Ballet Company's Summer Dance Camp held each July is an opportunity for dancers to study intensively with renowned teachers from across the country.
  • Most local dance studios offer summer camps for students of all ages. Check with the individual studio for dates and prices.

Music:

  • The Nebraska Jazz Camp gives young jazz musicians 7th grade and up the opportunity to study with renowned professional jazz musicians and teachers for a week on the campus of Nebraska Wesleyan University.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan University Children's Choir Camp is a weeklong camp for young singers to improve their vocal and musical skills.
  • The Academy of Rock is a contemporary youth music program. Their summer programs give kids the opportunity to learn how to play the music of bands they love.
  • The University of Nebraska's Middle School Band Camp gives students in 6th-8th grade a chance to improvise, explore, and create. Students discover band in a way they never have before!
  • Nebraska Wesleyan University's High School Solo Singers Workshop is a three day intensive workshop that offers high school students age 15 and older an opportunity to explore healthy development of the voice.

Visual Art:

  • Lux Center for the Arts offers a wide variety of classes for students of all ages. Youth camps and classes work with many mediums including clay sculptures, prints on paper, acrylic paintings, and fiber creations.
  • Paint Yourself Silly has Summer Art Camps and Art Clubs for grades kindergarten and up.
