In the late 1980's Susan J. Brasch and Nancy Marshall observed that individual artists and small arts organizations weren't receiving grant funding because of 501c3 limitations. So they created ArtSpirit, a non-profit corporation that could offer itself as a fiscal umbrella for artists in need. ArtSpirit has been integral in the emergence of many local artists and groups including the Seventh Street Loft, Third Chair Chamber Orchestra, the Angels Company, and Camp Noodle. It has coordinated programs through the Nebraska Arts Council, the Mid-America Arts Alliance, the Lincoln Public Schools, and the Burkholder Project

The Lincoln Arts Council is the information and service agency for the arts in Lincoln, Nebraska. Programs include placing temporary and permanent public art, presenting the Mayor's Arts Awards, giving mini-grants and providing greater access to the arts for all.
