Summer belongs to children... the season for kids to just be kids and for adults to find their inner child. It is the perfect time for kids to explore, learn, and create so we decided to put together a list of opportunities for students to spend their summers immersed in art.

The Chiara String Quartet will be performing at Kimball Recital Hall Saturday, June 19, 2010 as a part of the Meadowlark Festival.
Playing "Chamber Music in Any Chamber," the Chiara String Quartet (Rebecca Fischer, Julie Yoon violin; Jonah Sirota, viola; Gregory Beaver, cello) reaches from the concert hall into clubs, bars and galleries, expanding the places to hear live classical music while returning chamber music to its roots in intimate spaces. Described by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer as "vastly talented, vastly resourceful, and vastly committed to the music of their time," the Chiara is also continually finding new meaning within pieces from the well-established quartet canon. Their performances have been described as "luminous," "searing," (New York Times) "soulful," "biting," and possessing a "potent collective force" (Strings Magazine).

Art is a big deal to me because it flexes just those muscles as it asks me to play along, get the joke, take the ride, find the answer. The payoff is that I will get to see the world anew, and in a slightly different way. How cool is that!

Mr. Lorenz will delight us by conducting the group, as well as share stories about the music you will hear.

In 2009 the Lincoln Arts Council received a generous gift from the estate of Ken Good, a portion of which was used to redevelop our website and establish an endowment. We offer our heart-felt thanks to Kenneth J. Good for his generosity and vision for a beautiful future.
