Overview

WINNERS ANNOUNCED IN THE 3rd ANNUAL EXHIBIT OF THE NATIONAL ARTS PROGRAM FOR CITY EMPLOYEES
Work to be displayed at Gere, Eiseley, Walt and Bennet branch libraries.

Mayor Chris Beutler will present cash awards Thursday, July 23 to the winners of the First National Arts Program contest for employees of the City of Lincoln and their families. Close to 100 entries were received, and 13 artists will be recognized in a ceremony at 6 p.m. at Turbine Flats, 2124 “Y” Street. No City funds were used for the contest or exhibit, and the program had no entry fee.

This is the third year the City of Lincoln has participated in the National Arts Program, which sponsors art contests and exhibits for City employees and their families in about 450 communities across the country. Lincoln is the first city in Nebraska to take part in the program.

All artwork entered will be exhibited at four branch libraries from Thursday, July 23 through Friday, August 21. Art work will be exhibited at four different library branch sites throughout Lincoln including: Eiseley, 1530 Superior Street, Gere, 2400 South 56th, Walt, 6701 S 14th St, and Bennet Martin, 136 South 14th Street. Opening receptions will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 23rd at Turbine Flats.

The National Arts Program provides an excellent opportunity for the city of Lincoln employees to display their creativity outside of the work environment and for their families to share their talents. The public is encouraged to visit the exhibits to see the outstanding work.

The winner of the “Best in Show” award is Nation Vaske, the 11-year-old son of Jean Hulbert who is a senior Office Assistant of the PWU Lincoln Water System. Nation will receive $300.00 as winner “Best in Show”. A complete list of award recipients follows this release.

Judges for the exhibition were Norman Geske, former Director of the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery; Anne Pagel, Curator for the Duncan Family; and Carol DeVall, a member of the Gallery 9.
